Avocados Are Being Recalled In Six States Due To Possible Listeria Contamination

Scott Olson/Getty Images News/Getty Images This Avocado Recall For Possible Listeria Contamination Impacts Six States By Lara Walsh a day ago You might want to hold off on the avocado toast and guacamole this week, thanks to a mass recall on avocado that’s impacting six different states. If you purchased avocados recently, you’ll want to double-check the label before consuming them to make sure they’re not part of this avocado recall for possible listeria contamination. According to the FDA recall announcement, California-based grower Henry Avocado Corporation is recalling both conventional and organic varieties, so here’s what you should know before you toss your avocados. On Saturday, March 23, the FDA issued an announcement that revealed that Henry Avocado had voluntarily …

Marry the Guy That Does All the Things

ShareTweetPinterest Marry this guy. No, I’m not telling you to marry a reptilian/man hybrid, just the man underneath the mask. You know…the one that will put on a silly mask just to make his kids laugh (and his wife too.) The guy that works hard for his family and often puts his needs dead last. The guy that goes to three different grocery stores to try and find his pregnant wife that special macaroni salad she just has to have (or the baby has to have.) Become A Contributor The guy that isn’t afraid to speak up when he disagrees with you because he knows your love is strong enough to withstand it. The guy that will change your beloved …

“Im Raising My Sons With Your Daughters in Mind”

ShareTweet Little girls are meant to be cherished, respected, and loved for the jewels they are. But when every other headline in today’s society is alluding to some new sexual assault/misconduct allegation, it makes it tough to believe that we can raise them in a safe world. When will we see the day that our daughters do not need to be on the defense, packing pepper spray and knives in their purses, and making sure they go for jogs in well-lit, populated neighborhoods? When can they safely go to a party and not be blamed for being raped because of how much they drank or what they were wearing? Well, proud boy-mom, Krista Ward, is praying that she may see …

Woman’s Savage Viral Obituary Is Blowing Twitter’s Mind

The inevitability of death is something that all humans share – regardless of politics or religion. Another would be the fact that most of us want to be remembered positively. Obituaries are one way in which those who have passed can be semi-immortalized, and are generally reserved to vague pleasantries and celebrations. Every now and then, however, there is an exception. The shockingly shade-filled obituary of Kathleen Dehmlow falls into this category.  Twitter user @RandBallsStu was first to notice the scathing, five-paragraph obituary. The obit starts off innocently enough, detailing her birth, marriage, and the birth of her first two children. That’s when things get weird. Apparently, Dehmlow became pregnant by her brother-in-law and moved to Califonia – leaving her …

Some members of Colorado family may have been strangled, court documents reveal

(CNN)New court documents filed in the case of a Colorado man suspected of killing his pregnant wife and their two daughters suggest that some of the victims may have been strangled. They also asked the court to allow defense expert Richard Eikelenboom to take swabs from the bodies. “I have a lot experience taking samples from dead bodies getting good results after strangulation,” Eikelenbloom wrote to the court. “The hands of the children should be sampled as well.” It is unclear whether a judge ordered the coroner’s officer to swab for DNA. The first motion, according to documents, was filed 20 minutes before the autopsies were scheduled to begin. Defense attorneys did not indicate in the court filings what motivated …

Read Emma Watson’s powerful letter to the woman whose death helped legalize abortion in Ireland.

via Jorge Figueroa/Flickr Six years ago, Dr. Savita Halappanavar died in an Irish hospital from a septic miscarriage after being denied an abortion. But her death would not be in vain. It would go on to inspire a generational change in the country that led to the legalization of abortion. Back in 1982, Irish voters approved the Eighth Amendment which gave an unborn fetus the same protection as its mother, making it nearly impossible for women to have an abortion. So when Dr. Savita Halappanavar was admitted to the hospital for a septic miscarriage, doctors would not remove the fetus until they could no longer detect a heartbeat. According to Halappanavar’s husband, doctors knew the fetus would not survive, but …

New blazes fan fresh fears in California as some return home

On Monday, after driving a winding road across charred slopes and past smoldering ruins of other houses in Decker Canyon, Rasmussen wrapped Berkeley in a bear hug of thanks after finding their two houses still standing untouched by fire. “Without him, I knew it was going to be a loss,” Rasmussen said. “He just went above and beyond.” Fire officials lifted some evacuation orders Monday while warning Southern California residents to remain vigilant as strong winds fanned new fires. While some returned home, others were told to leave. As one major freeway reopened, another was closed. The return to normal for some was juxtaposed with the arrival of chaos for others, illustrating how quickly conditions can turn when erratic Santa …

Retroactive Abortion? Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, a Catholic, Resurrects Death Penalty

What might be called retroactive abortion in particular circumstances is better than okay with Gov. Pete Ricketts, as he may well demonstrate on Tuesday when a double murderer is scheduled to become the first person executed in Nebraska in two decades. We need to have capital punishment in his state, says Ricketts, an avowed Catholic who otherwise adheres vocally to his churchs pro-life edicts. He allows, theres a number of people expressing their difference of opinion with regard to this, but the people of Nebraska have been very clear. Those expressing their opinion happen to include Pope Francis, who early this month revised the Catechism to declare the death penalty inadmissible as an attack on the inviolability and dignity of …

Playboy model, 25, arrested in death of California psychiatrist, 71, found in trunk of car

Kelsey Turner, 25, was arrested in California for the murder of Thomas Burchard, a 71-year-old psychiatrist, whose body was found bludgeoned to death earlier this month in the trunk of a car in Nevada, authorities said Thursday. (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department) Social media profiles for a Kelsey Turner identify her as a model living in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. But property records obtained by the paper indicate Turner also had addresses in Arizona and California, including Salinas, about 130 miles from Stockton. Burchard’s body was discovered March 7 in a desert area near the entrance to the Lake Mead National Recreational Area. His body was found after a passerby noticed a rock had been thrown through …

“There Are Absolutely NO Words. I Was Absolutely Sobbing.” After 6 Miscarriages & 9 IVF Transfers, Couple Welcomes Baby Through Surrogate

ShareTweet “After getting married in October 2012, we knew we didn’t want to wait to start a family. However, that wait turned out to be much longer than we ever anticipated. After 9 IVF transfers with 15 embryos, 5 egg retrievals, and suffering 6 miscarriages, my best friend offered to be our surrogate. It was the kindest offer we had ever received. We transferred 2 embryos into Rachel in January and found out we were expecting our rainbow baby girl to be due September 2018. I never could have guessed she’d be born on my late father Scott’s birthday — whom she is named after. I lost my dad suddenly 3 years ago. I knew then I would name my baby after him. After all …

Anti-Vax Conspiracies On The Internet Are Getting Weirder

The anti-vaxxer movement has been growing over the course of 20 years, leaving unnecessary measles outbreaks in its wake. In 2018, there were 40,000 confirmed cases across Europe. A big part of the growth is due to online communities, where anti-science information can spread around like wildfire, and lies can sometimes spread faster than the truth. And once someone’s got the wrong idea about vaccines, it’s incredibly difficult to change their mind.  For years anti-vaxxers have mainly been spreading the misinformation that vaccines cause autism, a myth that has been debunked many times. Now it seems the job of myth-busting may get even more difficult, as anti-vaxxers are diversifying their nonsense. A new study, published in the journal Vaccine, looked at anti-vaxxers on Facebook and found …

Her Son Was a High Priest of Santa Muerte. He Died in a Hail of Bullets. Now She Runs a Huge Cult.

ECATEPEC, Mexico The visions appear so often these days that they cause little stir. The tall, wiry figure of the late Jonathan Legara is still a regular at his temple, while his followers say he imparts wisdom as they dream. It is 10 years since assailants gunned down the 26-year-old in a hail of some 250 bullets. But the murder of one of the most influential spiritual leaders in Mexicos recent history has not diminished Santa Muerte, the skeleton folk saint he revered whose name in English would be Saint Death. In fact, the movement he left behind has strengthened since his passing. The fallen preacher has assumed a saint-like status, while his bereaved mother, Enriqueta Vargas, skillfully guides his …
